Urwah Ibn Mas'ud said about Muhammad(saws),
"Well, I've gone into kings, I had audiences with Caesar, Khosrow and the Negus and I swear by Allah, I've never seen the subjects of any king venerate him the way Muhammad's people venerate him. I swear if he spits the foam always falls into the palm of one of them and then he would rub it on to his face or skin. If he gives them a command they hurry to carry it out, if he speaks they lower their voices in his presence and they never look directly at him out of their veneration for him. He has made you an offer, so accept it."
And according to Az-Zuhri he said,
"I've seen a people who would never abandon him for any reason. So draw your own conclusions."
When Rasulullah would make wudhu the sahaba would rush to pickup the droplets of water that would fall down from Rasulullah (saws) and they would rub it on their skin to get the blessing from Rasulullah (saws). If a hair falls down, they would take it and would hide it. If he would spit they would take that and rub it onto themselves. They saw that everything that came and everything that had to do with Rasulullah (saws) had the blessings of Rasulullah (saws) in it.
This was their respect and love for Rasulullah (saws).
